Hands
down, my most memorable experience was seeing and hearing
Ainadamar, by the Atlanta Symphony. I got to meet and hug
Osvaldo Golijov and talk to members of the ensemble. I told
Golijov it was my biggest musical thrill since I first heard
Miles Davis, 50 years earlier. Robert Von

After
lunch I was sitting, reading, near a tree in the park. An
older woman lay near me on the grass with her eyes closed.
Eventually, she awoke, sat up, and we began the most wonderful
conversation about the music we had just heard. I learned
that Ojai isn't just about music, it's about making friends.

Our
first attendance at the Music Festival was June 1966. Our
infant daughter crawled around on the grass and we loved the
music. The festival was one of the reasons we decided to move
to Ojai which we did a few years after and we still continue
attending to this day.

Many
years ago, when I first starting coming (early 1990's), we
attended an evening concert that featured a piece written
in mid-century by John Cage. I was astonished, as were my
friends, by the freshness of the music, even though it was
half a century old. There was something, too, about being
outdoors in the semi-silence and the darkness that really
added to the experience.

Seeing
so many music
lovers coming into Ojai
to enjoy both the
concerts and our
wonderful community.
