Trimpin’s stunning Sound Cradle (2010), commissioned specially for the 2011 Ojai Music Festival raffle, is an elegant kinetic sculpture with a sound component. | BE THE ONE — OWN THIS TRIMPIN SOUND SCULPTURE ________________________________ ONLY 150 ENTRIES AVAILABE $500 each ________________________________ For entries, contact Anna Cho Wagner at 805.646.2094, x105 or email: [email protected]. | The sculpture incorporates three pairs of sling-shaped solid glass rockers each cradling a colorful glass sphere and resting on a tripod-shaped steel-plated base. The sound element is triggered by a motion detector installed near the sculpture that causes the glass objects to slowly rock back and forth, producing a soft, repetitive sound pattern. The three glass elements are compelling whether static, or in motion, recalling the imagery of surrealist objects, such as Giacometti’s Suspended Ball (1930-31). Similar to the mystery of surrealism, Sound Cradle is the expression of that which is ambiguous and intangible. Trimpin’s oeuvre is an ongoing quest to push the limits of our sensory experiences. Through a continuous exploration of vision, sound and movement, in conjunction with the most current technologies, Trimpin challenges traditional notions of art and music. Sound Cradle is an exceptional example of Trimpin’s work; its interactivity, grace, delight and size make it an ideal indoor or outdoor sculpture.
